Overview of Recycling Requirements

South Dakota requires all state agencies to recycle their cardboard, office paper, newspaper, and plastic, glass, aluminum and steel containers. Yard waste, motor oil, white goods and car batteries must also be recycled as they are banned from landfills statewide.

State agencies are required to provide a deskside recycling container for all employees.

Counties and municipalities may establish their own mandatory recycling laws and ordinances.
